At Anderson Tours, we take your experience seriously. We understand the sacred and delicate nature of visiting holy sites on an organized tour. So much of your experience depends on the attitudes, philosophies and motivations of the people organizing the tour and those directing the experience. At Anderson Tours, our mission statement is...

.

Alma 36:24; “Yea, and from that time even until now, I have labored without ceasing, that I might bring souls unto repentance; that I might bring them to taste of the exceeding joy of which I did taste; that they might also be born of God, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.”

.

This verse describes beautifully the reasons Anderson Tours came to be and the desires it embraces. Anderson Tours’ whole intent is for each traveler to be edified by the Spirit and draw closer to our Creator. This driving philosophy is evident in everything we do.

Above all else, Anderson Tours does not cut corners on your experience! It is possible that other companies offer similar travel options as Anderson Tours. However, after comparing the itineraries it is clear that no other tours can compete with what you will get for your money when you travel with us. Other companies may cut corners to save money and bring costs down. Sadly, the experience you could have also gets cut when this is done. At Anderson Tours, your experience is paramount. Because we understand that your trip with us may be the only time you will get to visit these sites, we give you the best experience possible at every one. Although this may not be the most convenient or cost effective for the company, it is top on our list of priorities—to help make your Anderson Tours experience the best.

Second, our experience enhances your experience! Not only do the directors at Anderson tours have experience with the historical sites, but also with the scriptures. Because of this, our directors can do more than provide you with a list of interesting facts about the places you visit. Many of our tour directors have devoted their lives to teaching principles from the standard works, and they know how to help you bring the scriptures to life at each site. After returning home your scripture study will be greatly enhanced as you recount principles, feelings, and memories that you experienced while studying the scriptures with us. It is no wonder that with Anderson Tours you will constantly be reminded, “Don’t Forget to Bring Your Scriptures!”

Finally, the memories you will create with Anderson Tours will last a lifetime. The places that you see will become cherished thoughts, as well as the friendships made with your fellow tour participants.

Our 2009 tours can be viewed by clicking on the pictures on the left-hand side of this page.

Please email us your comments and questions!AndersonToursMail@gmail.com

We look forward to traveling with you and your friends and family on our upcoming tours!

ABOUT ANDERSON TOURS LLC

The Anderson Tours story began with A. Gary Anderson, who taught Religion in the Church History department at Brigham Young University for 25 years. During this time he directed tours for BYU and allowed his family to travel with him on multiple occasions. They were inspired as they had personal, spiritual experiences at sacred places while visiting Israel, Egypt, and American and Church History sites. Gary’s passion for the Spirit of Place was contagious, and all nine Anderson children came to appreciate the value and power of being “on site” while learning of the sacred events of the scriptures. As the Anderson children tried to share the excitement and spirit that they had experienced while being taught at these sacred sites, they found themselves often saying, “If you were standing…” or “pretend you were there…” and wishing others could experience similar things as they had with their father.
In 1995, Gary passed away and the Anderson family took a healing trip to the Holy Land to revisit places he had loved and taught so well. Following this memorable trip, two of Gary’s sons, Ron and Clark, decided to offer a similar trip to other family and friends. Pleased with the outcome, they continued traveling—operating under the name Shalom Tours. The name was changed to Anderson Tours, LLC in 2000 and soon American Heritage/Church History itineraries were added to the list of offered trips. Anderson Tours continued providing travel opportunities and found that the thrill of each tour was actually being “on site” to learn and discover the scriptures together—just as Gary loved to do.
As the demand for quality LDS tours increased, the Anderson Family alone was not able to meet the needs of all those who wanted to have the Anderson Tours experience. They found, however, that many of their friends and associates shared their same philosophy and wanted to help others discover the power found in learning from the scriptures on hallowed ground. Anderson Tours expanded, adding several tours and tour directors in order to help as many people as possible to participate. Today Anderson Tours continues to do all it can to bring the power of these sites to each participant and invites you to discover the magic of the “on site” classroom with us as we visit sacred places throughout the world.

MEET OUR DIRECTORS

Clark Anderson
Clark served his mission in the Netherlands/Belgium Mission. Clark spent the summer of 2000 in Israel as a student at an Ulpan learning Hebrew.
Clark has extensive experience with Church History sites and Tours as well. On two occasions Clark has been an ‘Assistant Director’ for the Church History/American Heritage Tours for BYU Travel Study. In the past eight years he has organized and been involved in eleven Church History/American Heritage Tours. The last nine he organized, hosted and directed. In addition, he was the director of the International Studies program at BYUI from 2002 to 2005.
In 2008, Jerry joined the History and Political Science department at BYUI. While there, he participated in the sesquicentennial celebration of the church in the British Isles, spear-headed by his mission president, Wendell Ashton. This experience combined with his service in Britain has given John a unique and profound appreciation for church history in this part of the world. After returning from his mission, John married his lovely wife Ruth who was born and raised in England. They are the parents of six children, including two sets of twins!
John has been teaching in the Church Educational System now for 13 years and is currently an instructor at the Laramie Institute where he is also working on a PhD. He has participated in American church history tours with his family and church and loves visiting these sacred sites. Because of his mission experiences and his visits to England with his family, John wanted to tour the church history sites in Great Britain as well. Consequently, he has planned, organized and directed two tours to this ancestral country so rich in heritage and tradition. His knowledge of the people, culture, language (yes they do speak a wee bit differently!) and church history helps him provide a meaningful and unforgettable tour to this awe-inspiring land.

John McLay

John McLay earned a Bachelors degree in English from Brigham Young University (1998), and a Masters degree in Sociology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (2003).
His teaching experience began as a full-time missionary serving in the Portugal Lisbon North Mission (1992-1994). Today is one of our most enjoyable days as we venture through the wonders of the ‘Eternal City’! We begin by entering Herod’s gate and walk through the Old City and onto the Temple Mount where we see the Dome of the Rock, the Wailing Wall, etc. We will view the current structures and discuss the past as well as the future of that site. We will next descend and view Lions Gate & the Mount of Olives. From there we are on the Via Dolorosa (or Path of Suffering). We’ll stop at St. Anne’s Cathedral (Pool of Bethesda) and the Antonio Fortress (Jesus before Pilate). Lunch will be in the Old City of Jerusalem. Our walking tour continues as we make our way to Caiaphas’ Palace (St. Peter of Gallicantu) and then to The Upper Room. As we make our way back to the hotel we will have the opportunity to be introduced to the shopkeeper that makes LDS scripture covers, necklaces, etc. Following dinner we will visit a few shopkeepers near our hotel (olive wood, etc). They have been doing business with “The Mormons” for close to 30 years. This evening we will have the unforgettable experience of viewing how the Orthodox Jews bring in the Sabbath at the Western Wall. We again overnight in Jerusalem.

Day 4 (Fri Aug 7th): MUSEUMS / HOLLOCAUST MUSEUM / BETHLEHEM

Our day begins with a stop in the Shepherds' Fields where we'll reflect on the story of Jesus' birth, Ruth, and the concept of "Sheep". We will then cross through 'The Wall' (20' cement wall that separates Israel and Palestinian controlled land) to visit the birthplace of the Savior in Bethlehem (Church of the Nativity). We will enjoy some lunch and time permitting a local Bethlehem Olive Wood shop before crossing back through the wall. Our next stop is a very impressive miniature model of the city of Jerusalem in Christ's day; The Model City. This will be followed up with a sobering experience at the new and improved Holocaust Museum, Yad Vashem. Our day will conclude with an experience at the "Time Elevator Jerusalem" (a fun movie experience that recounts the history of Jerusalem). This evening we will view how the Orthodox Jews bring in the Sabbath at the Western Wall. The view of Jerusalem during our Sacrament Service in the BYU Jerusalem Center is inspiring. On our way to lunch we will wander down the Mt. of Olives and pass thousands of Jewish graves, including those of the Biblical Prophets; Haggai & Zechariah.
